INDIAN RACIAL RIOT

THREE DEAD, 20 INJURED SEQUEL TO STABBING (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received May 15, 11 a.m.) CALCUTTA, May 14. Three Mohammedans . were killed and 20 Hindus and Mohammedans seriously injured when severe communal rioting occurred at the Shainnugger jute area, 20 miles from Calcutta. The trouble started with the stabbing of a Hindu leader. Enraged Hindus swept into the Mohammedan quarter and assaulted everybody indiscriminately. The pent-up feelings of the Mohammedans then gave way, and battles were fought out in the streets and bazaars. The local police were unable to cope with the situation, but reinforcements restored order. Fifty arrests were made.
