TOKOMARU BAY NEWS

GOLF SEASON OPENS (Herald Correspondent.) The official opening of the Tukomaru Gay Golf Club took place last week-end, .ii excellent weather, and attracted a splendid crowd of players and visitors. I o save delay, . the men’s secretary arranged mixed foursomes as the players arrived, and some very pleasant games were contested over 15 holes. The links are in a very creditable condition for this time of the season and compared with last year, the club is very fortunate to be able to gain a start with matches immediately. The greenkeeper and the laborers have done excellent work «o far, and with a little more labor on the o reens, the course should be in first class

order very soon. After the matches, the ladies served a delicious afternoon tea from the club house, and a handsome birthday cake presented to the club with best wishes, for a good season, from Mrs. A. P. Orr, vas cut and distributed, and the president, Mr. J. Todd, expressed his appreciation on behalf of the members.

The silver cup presented by Mr. D. Lumsden for the men’s junior championship, and won for the first time last year by Mr. A. Forrester, was presented by the president. The ladies’ club' captain, Miss RSavage, was' then called upon to make the initial drive, and the president do clarcd the links open for play. Those who took part in the foursomes were:—N., Oates and Miss R. Savage v. D. E Ramsay and Mrs. Lumsden; A. Forrester and Miss M. Mackay v. P. Fairlie and Mrs. Riddell; ,T, Riddell and Miss I). Pepper v. A. P. Orr and Mrs. Wheeler; J. MacDonald and Mrs. Niven v. F. E. Porter and Miss L. Coop ; J. Carver and Miss E. Jackson v. I*. Murphy and Mrs. F. Nathan; I*. Te Wai and Miss I. Major v. J. Todd and Miss E. Oates; D. Lumsden and Airs. N. Oates v. A. Morgan and Miss D. Conole; H. D. Gardner and L. Lunken v. W. Rauch and W. Horton ; E. Brown and R. Dodd v. 11. Oates and R-. Harrison; S. Mac William and J. B. Stafford v. Miss O. Ransley and Miss M. Corbett.
