BRITISH UNEMPLOYMENT

RATE OF CONTRIBUTION REDUCTION POSSIBLE (British Official Wireless.) Roc. 10 a.m. RUGBY, May 2. Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Neville Chamberlain said that with unemployment moving downwards, as at present, there was every prospect that the unemployment insurance fund was going to save a substantial surplus after paying the debt charge, and after the restoration of the economy cuts.

Under the provisions of the Unemployment Bill, the disposal of that surplus was not in the hands of the

Government, blit of the statutory committee. It was within the power of the committee to recommend, if it thought fit, that there should 'be a reduction in the contribution. It seemed to him 'pretty clear that there would be a surplus which would allow it to make some recommendation of this kind. \ ■ ■
