FOOTBALLERS’ OPENING DANCE (Herald Correspondent.) On Wednesday evening, despite counter-attractions in both town and country, there wius a good attendance of supporters and their friends at the first of a series of popular dances to be held this dancing season at the Patutahi Hall under the auspices of the local football club. A capable band of lady helpers had spared no pains to cater for the comfort and enjoyment of patrons, and a sumptuous supper, daintily spread on long tables artistically adorned with vases of pom-pom dahlias intermingled with French marigolds, left nothing to be desired. The introduction of numerous novelty dances added a carnival touch to an already gay scene. Music was supplied by Mrs. Menzies ’ orchestra, extras contributed by Misses E. Burgess and A. Ritchie being heartily applauded. Mr. C. Cusack capably carried out the duties of M.C. "A. lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Doherty and partner. The following tv ere amongst those present:—Mrs. A. Patterson, yellow taffetas; Miss C. Lyons, red velvet frock; Miss S. Lyons, spotted green crepe de chine ; Miss L. Lyons, check taffeta; bliss N. Agnew, lemon organdie; bliss A. Ritchie, blue taffetas; bliss Buck, apple green taffetas.
