EAST COAST VISIT
PUBLIC WORKS MINISTER RAILWAY INSPECTION * (.Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Public Works, the lion. J. Bitchener, making his first visit to the East Coast, leaves hero to-morrow and will traverse the route of the NapicrGisborne railway, though it is expected that representations on this subject will be made by a deputation which is being arranged for about March 13, after lus return to Wellington, llis itinerary is as follows: Sunday.—Leave Napier for Wairoa and inspect Waikaremoana power station, returning to Wairoa in the evening. Monday. —Receive deputations at Wairoa m the morning, and Jeave for Gisborne via Tiniroto in the afternoon. Tuesday.—Leave Gisborne for To Arnroa, staying the night. Wednesday.—Leave To Araros, for Gisborne, receiving deputations in the evening. Thursday.—Leave Gisborne for Qpotiki, staying the night. Friday.—Leave Opotiki for Whakatane, connecting with the Limited at Frankton in the evening for Wellington
GISBORNE RAILWAY CLAIM COMMITTEE TO MEET No intimation of (he Minister’s coming visit to Gisborne had been received by Lhe Mayor, Mr. John Jackson. When he was informed by the Herald this afternoon, he said that arrangements certainly would be made to meet the Minister and put forward the claims of the Gisborne district in regard to the railway. He, as chairman of the Railway committee, would call the committee together prior to the Minister’s arrival so that some arrangements could be mado for meeting him.
