FAT SHEEP RISE SHARPLY STORES REMAIN PERM A sharp rise in the values of fat sheep occurred at the Matawhcro stock sale today, prices going up to 21s 6d for two exceptionally good wethers. Store sheep retained their firm tone in the face of a heavy yarding, although medium and small lambs sold before lunch were a little in buyers' favor. The pig market in a small yarding remained Jinn. The yarding of fat cattle was particularly small. BEEF Prices.—One plain Jersey cow, 22s 6d; 1 fairly well-finished Jersey cow, £2. FAT SHEEP The entry of fat sheep totalled 688, and the market showed a sharp advance. Very prime ewes made 15s to 16s lOd, and other ewes from 14s 3d upwards, except a few light ones at 13s Id. A few prime 2-th ewes sold at 21s 6d. Lambs were only ordinary, making 11s 6d to 14s 9d. Second-grade ewes brought 9s 9d to 13s 4d. Prices: Ewes. —114 at 14s 4d; 8,14 s3d ; 366, i4s 6d; 4,13 sld ; 34, 14s 9d; 9,15 s; 30, 15s sd; 43, 16s lOd; 20, 16s 2d: 2 2-th, 2,1 s 6d. Second-grade ewes.—2o, 13s 4d; 9,9 s 9d; 4,12 s lid. Lambs.—Six small, 11s 6d; 9,14 s 9d. STORE SHEEP There was a largo yarding; of store sheep, although smaller than that of previous sales. Up to lunch, the market was generally firm, with medium and small lambs a little easier. Good woolly lambs mado 11s 4d to 14s 3d, and good lusty shorn 13s 9d. Six-year ewes made to 12s, 5-year to 12s 9d, and a good class of 4-tooth to 5-year 15s, good 2-tooth ewes 20s 5d to 20s lOd and fairly good 16s to 18s 7d. Big solid 2-tooth wethers sold at 19s Id and good 4-tooth, 17s Bd. The sale proceeded briskly after lunch, with good competition and values fully maintained. Prices: — Lambs.—47, woolly, mostly good size, 11s 4d; 60, shorn, great frames, good condition, 13s 9d : 62, fairly good size, in good order, 9s 9d; 149, good medium sized pen, 6s 9d; 248, a .straight line, fairly good size, good condition, 10s 7d; 52, good frames and condition, woolly, 14s 3d; G 8 shorn owes, fairly good size, medium condition, 9s 3d; 104 ’Downs, fairly good size and condition, 9s Id; 50 ’Downs, good size and condition, 11s 7d; 402 high, country, shorn, great frames, good condition, 14s 2d. Young ewes.—sl 2-tooth, small, 11s lid; 90 2-tooth, fairly good size and condition, 15s 9d; 40 2-tooth, good size, full of condition, 18s 7d; 233 2-tooth, fairly good size and condition, 16s; 72 2-tooth, fairly good size, good store condition, 18s Id; 37 ,2-tooth, good bone, sappy condition, 20s sd; 160 2-tooth, fairlv good size, fresh condition, 16s 9d; 48 2-tooth, fresh condition, 20s 10d; 211 2 and 4-tootli, good frames, good store condition, 16 lCki; 65 2-tooth, fairly good size and condition, 17s.
Ewes.—443 5-yr, fairly good condition, some fat, 12s 9d; 227 4-th to 5-yr, big frames, good condition, 15s; 320 6-yr, good frames, fairly good condition, some fat, 12s; S 7 4 and 5-yr., guaranteed, with frame and condition, 15s 3d; 03 4 and syr,, guaranteed, frame and eontion, 15s 8d"; 223, guaranteed mouths, good store condition, 14s 4d. Wethers.—B7 2-ths, good size and condition, 17s lid; 88 light 2-ths, 14s 6d ; 230, <iood frames, good store condition. 17s 3d; 343 good 2-ths, good store condition, 16s lOd; 382 high-country 2ths. good frames, good'store condition, 17s Id. PIGS The yarding of pigs was only small. Tlie demand was keen for quality. Prices.—2 fairly good weaners, 8s; 5 good Tamworth weaners, 9s; 2 fairly good Tamworth weaners, 7s; 4 choice Berkshire weaners, 15s: 4 good Tamworth weaners, 10s; 3 medium sized Tamworth stores, 17s; 4 good Tamworth weaners, 9s 6d.
