THE WEATHER
To-day’s North Island Report Overcast and unsettled conditions were reported throughout the North Island this morning, with light rain in places. Moderate to light northerly breezes were general. The barometer had fallen steadily since yesterday. Temperatures it 9 o'clock were: Auckland 67 degrees, Tauranga 63, Opotiki 65, Fast Cape 66, Gisborne 68, Napier 69, and Wellington 70. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell and Opotiki; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast A shallow depression is still situated west of the Auckland Peninsula, and a slight westerly depression is crossing the south Tasman, while a. fairly intense inticyclone lies to the cast of New Zealand." Winds : Variable and mainly light to moderate, with north-easterly to north-westerly predominating. Seas: Rather rough north of East Cape and ibout- Foveaux Strait ; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate north to west winds; moderate seas. Weather: Fair and warm generally, but further scattered rain likely in the Auckland province; some showers ater in Westland and the far south. Midday Forecast. General inference.—-The depression west of the Auckland peninsula has now moved to the eastern side. At the same .ime, a westerly depression is moving rapidly across the South Island. An anticyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Moderate northerly at first, but a southerly change likely tonight, iml probably severe at first. Weather becoming unsettled, with rain and cooler temperatures. Seas rough.
