ONLY ONE HORSE

NOMINATIONS FOR RACE Officials of the Opunake Racing Club received a surprise when tile nominations for the annual meeting were announced. For ono event, the St. Patrick’s Handicap (open), of £9O, six furlongs, there was only one nomination, that of Orapai, entered by J. O’Neill, of New Plymouth. At a special meeting the committee decided reluctantly to delete the St. Patrick’s Handicap from the programme. The meeting therefore will consist of seven races. The cancelling of a race for this reason is believed to be without precedent. Tho other races at the meeting have attracted satisfactory nominations.
