FEBRUARY RAINFALL

THE AVERAGE EXCEEDED ONLY TWICE SINCE JUNE The rainfall at Gisborne during February totalled 4.89 in. This is well above the average fpr February, and this is the first time for five months on which the month’s average has been exceeded, and only the second occasion since June. Rain fell on 11 days in Gisborne, the heaviest fall being 1.78 in. on February 11. At that period, rain fell on eight successive days. For the first two months of the year, the total rainfall was 7.17 in., a figure that is the lowest for four years. In 1932, however, the total was swelled by the Hood during February, when 3.86 in. fell in 24 hours and 12.61 in. during the month. Last year, ample rains fell in both January, and February.
