FIVE-YEAR PLAN

HAWKE’S BAY ROADS BITUMEN CONSTRUCTION SCHEME An ambitious scheme involving the permanent bitumen pealing of 60 miles of flats on the main roads of Hawke s Bay is at present engaging the attention df the Hawke’s Bay County Council, and in the hear future a definite plan for the work, covering a period of five years, will be submitted to the council for approval. Once this measure has been adopted, the project will be submitted to the Main Highways Board for endorsement, following which every effort will be made to complete the financial arrangements so that an early commencement can be made. In the near future the Main Highways Board is to undertake the reconstruction of the Wcstshore embankment and the road which leads to 'Bay View, the whole of which was seriously damaged by the earthquake, but the scheme which is now being evolved by the Hawke’s Bay County Council will continue the bitumen surface as far as Tangoio. The stretch to Eskdale from Bay View' will' also be sealed, while the other portions of the main highways which are included in the scheme are from Napier to Femhill, from Napier to Mara,ekak;aho. from Havelock North to the Waijparama bridge, and from Mangateretere to Te Aw.anga
