100 M.P.H. EXPRESSES GERMAN PLANS BERLIN, Jan. 15. Three express trains capable of a speed of 100 miles an lioup will be brought into .service at the end of this year by the Geripan State Railways. In essentials these trains will resemble the “Flyipg Hamburger” with its streamlined construction and Diesel engines. r -piey will travel on the stages Bprlin-Dresuen, Bellin-Leipzig, and probably Berlin-Hapover-Cologiie. In future plans the Reiehsbahn will aim at providing smaller but more frequent trains ; by following this idea they hope to resist the competition of the rqpidly developing air and motor traffic. A general acceleration of the ordinary train service is being carried through. The main feature in the acceleration programme will -bo the gradual displacement of steam by motor trains on the shorter stages, particularly for local and country traffic. This transformation of the railway system will take some years and will cost over two milliards of marks. It had been hoped that the steam engine might also be eliminated on the big trans-continental trains, but the kind of accommodation, demanded by travellers over long distances is not possible 011 trains of the Flying Hamburger typo,
