VISIT OF H.M.S. DIOMEDE (Herald Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon Captain Graham and officers of H.M.S. Diomede, which was visiting Waikokopu, .were the guests of the district at a dinner held in the ' Clyde Hotel. There .was also a native demonstration in honor of the Diomede’s captain and engineer-commander, the former being presented with a handsome piupiu by Mr. Matthew Edwards in the unavoidable absence of Mr. A. T. Carroll. Games and tennis were greatly enjoyed, and also rowing on the Wairoa River, the course calling for high praise as being ideal for rowing. The Mayor, Mr. H. L. Harker, has expressed his thanks to Messrs. Richardson and Company for providing transport at Waikokopu free of cost for the children and teachers in charge, and to the Public Works Department for its help, the school staff for its co-operation, and Messrs. Hutchinson and SByford for their services at Waikokopu.
