MAKARETU BRIDGE

FINE NEW STRUCTURE MINIATURE GRAFTON The Public Works Tenders Board is calling for tenders for a handsome new bridge to replace the old Makaretu suspension bridge in the Wairoa County, 12 or 13 miles from Wairoa on the Mangapoike Valley road. When completed, the new structure, will be a miniature of the Graffon Bridge, Auckland, having a single reinforced concrete span, an unusual designator bridges in this district.

The overall length of the bridge will be 126 ft., and it will consist of one arch span, with three approach sjjafcs all supported on reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The length Pf the single span will be B#ft., and th< overall width of the bridge will b< 12ft. Bin., while the width betfreei wheel-guards will be 10ft. Then will be 27ft. rise in the arch, and thi height of the deck above normal wate: level will be 30ft. The whole bridge will be of fe inforced concrete, and will contain 141 tons of reinforcing steel.
