OILFIELDS SURVEYED
VISIT OF GEOLOGIST MOTUROA WELLS INSPECTED That there is considerable interest in the development of the Taranaki oil fields is evidenced by the visit of Dr. J Jablonski, geologist to the Vacuum Oilfields, to New Plymouth. Dr. Jablonski is carrying out a survey of oil resources in New Zealand. Accompanied by Mr C. N. Taylor, managing director of the Moturoa Oilfields Company, lie made an inspection of the oilfields at Moturoa. All wells and well sites, including the Moturoa Oilfields Company’s producing No. 2 bore and the No. 4 well, which is at present .being sunk, were examined. Samples of oil were taken from No. 2 well. Compass sights of the positions of the wells were also taken.
Beyond evincing considerable interest in the work oil the Moturoa Company’s property, Dr. Jablonski would give no comment regarding his observations, stating that he would have to .spend a great deal more time ac New Plymouth’ before he was in a position to do so. Dr. Jablonski, who is a graduate of the Breslau University, has been in New Zealand 18 months, nearly ail of which lie has spent in the Poverty Bay district, where the company is co-operating with Taranaki Oilfields, Limited. The object of his work in that district was to determine whether the prospects justified the sinking of other wells.
Dr. Joblinski is returning to Gis borne.
