No fewer than seven women are now under arrest in different countries charged with spying for the international espionage ring, A woman named von Stahl was closely questioned by a magistrate regarding her relations with Mario Louise.
-Mdlle. von Schule, a beautiful Latvian blonde, was arrested in Helsingfors in October. Both are gifted linguists and women of exceptional culture and knowledge of the world. Though Mdlle. von Staid is 38 years of age, she is still handsome. She appeared in court wearing cheap clothes, recalling a girl student of French universities. Little direct evidence against her so far has been disclosed, the chief fact being her intimaev with Professor Martin. She denied Marlin ever gave her a document. ■Mdlle. von Stahl added: “The charges against mo are lies invented in Finland.
The Paris, correspondent'of the Daily Telegraph wrote recently: It is believed that the .spy organisation embraces at least 40 agencies in various parts of Europe. Supreme control is exercised by nomadic headquarters moving from capital to capital. The information obtained is not, monopolised by a. single power, hut is distributed to different clients, including Germany and Russia. The strangest figure, in the drama is Lydia Stahl, who was horn in Russia. She is at hpme in speaking 10 languages and thus became associated with Louis Martin, an interpreter in the French Ministry of Marine, who is credited with speakjng 68 languages and dialects. His erudition brought him into contact with Lydia Stahl, who persuaded Martin to tamper with documents relating to naval history.
