TOURNAMENTS CONCLUDE (By “Black Knight’’) At the Gisborne Chess Club last Saturday, Weatherly beat Ritchie for double points in the Sealed Handicap Tournament and position on the ladder; also Gleave defeated Harris in the final of the Waikanao Stakes. The few games 'remaining unplayed iu the main tournament were adjudicated and the handicaps unsealed. The handicaps given by the games committee proved to bo very fair, especially to the weaker players, for had any one scored two or three more wins instead of losses in the total of 26 games played, he would have won the tournament. Afterwards the president will present a trophy to Mr. Seddon, winner of the Championship Tournament and club champion for another year; the vice-president a trophy tol Mr. Gleave, winner of the Waikanao Stakes; whilst thd secretary will hand tlio club trophy to Mr. Weatherly, winner of the Handicap Tournament. It is also mooted that the runners-up of the Championship Tournament, the Waikanao Stakes and the most improved player also will receive souvenirs.
