Blue skies were reported everywhere in the North Island this morning except at Wellington. Moderate southerly breezes were reported north of East Cape, and moderate to fresh northwesterlies elsewhere. The barometer had commenced a rising movement. Temperatures a 9 o’clock were: Auckland 66 degrees, Tauranga, 68, Opotiki 65. East Cape 64, Gisborne 74, Napier 73, and Wellington 67. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell and Wellington; elsewhere moderate or smooth, Last Night’s Forecast. A slight anticyclone has been crossing the North Island to-day, but another westerly depression is advancing over the Tasman. Winds: Westerly to north-westerly, moderate generally, but soon freshening again. Seas: Rough about Cook and Fbvoaux Straits; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Northerly* winds, moderate but freshening in the northern portion, with moderate seas;- strong in the southern portion with rough seas, hacking to southerly during to-morrow in the latter area. Weather: Still fair to fine and warm for the most part, but some showers likely in the western and southern districts' of the South Island, Midday Forecast. General inference. —A slight westerly depression has been crossing southern New Zealand, while an anticyclone still extends over the North Island. Forecast—Light to fresh westerly winds.
