ARMY EQUIPMENT

IMPORTANT DECISIONS AUTOGIRO ADOPTED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received November- 2, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 1. The Daily Telegraph's military correspondent believes that tho Army is about to take two important steps, the revival of the tank brigade and the adoption of the autogiro. Successful tests of tho latter as a flying staff car in recent manoeuvres have led to the decision to adopt it as a regular part of the Army equipment. It is probable that autogiros will be attached to Army co-operation squadrons. During manoeuvres, they hovered close to Ihe ground, where they are difficult to detect by a hostile aeroplane flying above. The autogiro is •,suitable" for- both naval and army work, as it can take off from a warship, needing neither a landing deck nor catapult apparatus. Though not a true helicopter, for which a prize of £50,000 was offered in 1024, amt is still unclaimed, autogiros possess I lie essential qualities thereof.
