Regret at what he termed tho gravo lack of an historical sense among New Zealanders was expressed by the Rev. R. 11. CatTTcrwood, at the twenty-first; anniversary of the foundation of the Lansdownc Presbyterian Church, Masterton. "Although I am. a colonial," he said, "1 cannot understand this lack of historical sense, which is to be found in all directions among our people." He thought that perhaps a reason might be found in the fact that as yet the country was still comparatively young. '
