MOTU NEWS

( Herald. Correspondent.) A successful dance was held at Motuhora on Saturday night by the combined men’s and ladies’ basketball clubs. During the season all the basketball matches were held on the school ground and the teams held the dance to raise funds for school prizes, for which the Motuhora School Committee is very grateful. Mr. J. Lynch 'proved a capable M.C„ and Mr. Russell (Te Wera) and Mr. S. Granthan were the musicians. Several novelty dances were held, tho winners being Miss Stenhouse and Mr. E. Shepherd, Miss M. Shepherd and Mr. P. Grantham, and Miss M. Shepherd and Mr. J. Legge. An estimating competition was won by Mr. J. Leslie. Distemper amongst dogs is very prevalent in this district and many valuable animals have been lost. Farmers are becoming alarmed, and a number of cures are tried, but so far the most successful results are from serum injections, with the care necessary after such treatment. Tho Motu Hall Committee met on Monday night, Mr. It. S. Fisher being in the chair. Messrs. F. Hansen, W. and F. Donaldson, T. Jackson and F. Read, secretary, were also present, an apology for absence being received from Mr. Ei. P. Fisher. A very satisfactory balance-sheet was shown and several •matters dealt with. It was decided to put an extra light over the stage. Dr. Jablonski, of Taranaki Oil Fields, Limited, is a guest at the Motu Hotel. —Mrs. M. Stewart, Otoko, is to judge the cooking section at the lair on Saturday and Mrs. A. EL Gibson, Matawai, the school work.
