At 3 o’clock this morning a'policemnn and a night watchman saw what appeared to be Redstone’s garage in (troy street in danger of being razed lo the ground. Tiro fire alarm was immediately sounded. Soon after the night watchman informed the fire brigade that some rubbish in an empty benzine drum had caught lire, but had been quickly extinguished. “Spontaneous combustion was evidently the cause,” said the fire brigade superintendent, Mr. Kane. “The public should endeavor to prevent it taking place. It will bo remembered that spontaneous combustion was tho cause of a recent big fire in a factory at Auckland.”
