TOKOMARU BAY NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.! l There was a representative gathering of people from all parts of the Coast at the week-end for the opening of the Tokomaru Bay bowling and tennis clubs. Unfortunately the day was marred by the rain which fell during the tournament, and by the time afternoon tea had been served it was impossible to continue with the matches. Visitors were present from Gisborne, Tolaga Bay, and Ruatoria, and greatly added to the success of the oflicial opening. A bowling tournament was commenced, and the Yankee tournament at tennis was taken as far as the first round. The president of the tennis club, Dr. N. R. Mackay, declared the season opened. A delicious afternoon tea was served at the pavilion by the ladies' committee. The greens and courts are in first-class condition for play, sinco there has been a good growth of grass and great attention paid to the upkeep. The grounds generally are very picturesque; most of the flowering shrubs are in bloom, and a hedge has been planted between the courts and bowling green. For an almost new club, the grounds do the bowlers and tennis players much credit, and can be called one of Tokomaru’s picturesque spots. Mrs. F. Harris. Te Puka, who had been spending a few days in Gisborne,' arrived home at the week-end.—Miss D. Olsen, Gisborne, spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. Lindsay.—Miss F. Brown is visiting her brother. Mr. W. Brown, Tokomaru Bay.—Mr. H. Oates
has been spending a holiday at Fernside, after a few weeks’ indifferent health.— Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Campbell, Gisborne, were visitors to Tokomaru Bay at the week-end in connection with the bowling and tennis celebrations.
