Capital Territory 8,947 Northern Territory .. 4,860 At the previous census, taken in 1921, the population of Australia wns 5,435,734, showing an increase of nearly 1,000.000 in the preceding 10 years. In 1931 it was estimated that the population was 6,488,707.
