STEADY INCREASE
AUSTRALIAN POPULATION CANBERRA, Oct. 31. Australia’s population, according to the final census figures, announced today, is 6,630,600, of which number 3,367,185 are male's, and 3,267,785 females. The figures for the various States arc as follows: — New South Wales .. 2,601,104 Victoria .. .. 1,820,360 Queensland .. .. 947,789 South Australia .. 580,987 Western Australia .. 436,948 Tasmania .. .. 227,605 Fed. Capital Territory 8,947 Northern Territory .. 4,860 At the previous census, taken in 1921, the population of Australia wns 5,435,734, showing an increase of nearly 1,000.000 in the preceding 10 years. In 1931 it was estimated that the population was 6,488,707.
