EASING THE EMBARGO

ADMISSION OF PINEAPPLES An announcement that tho embargo against the importation of Australian fruits bad been further partially lifted to allow Queensland pineapples to enter New Zealand until further notice, has been made by the Minister of Customs, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. The change will operate immediately. In December last New Zealand imposed a ban on the importation of Australian fruits on tho ground that, if this were permitted the United States then would not allow the entry there of New Zealand fruits because of the danger from Mcc&erranean fly, a disease prevalent in Some parts of Australia. Recently it was arranged t hatcitrus fruits from South Australia should be allowed to enter New Zealand because that State was free from the fly, and, as a result of extended discussions between the Governments of New Zealand and the United States, it has been agreed to lift the ban on the importation ot Queensland pineapples into New Zealand until further notice.
