RACE FROM WOODVILLE

A further race was held by the Poverty Bay Homing Pigeon Society on Saturday from U’oodville, an airline distance of 164 miles. The weather was good at both ends, with a fine easterly wind, and the first-placed bird’s time was quite, fair, being 41ir. 28min.

1 hirty-two birds competed in the race, and the result was as follow:- —J. Forster's Shock, 4hr. 28min., velocity 1079yds. per min., 1; E. Jackson's Grand Sport, 41'i'., 42miii., velocity 1022yds. per min., 2; P. Riordan’s digger Minstrel, 4hr. 47min., velocity 1005yds. per min., 3. The remaining birds finished .in .the following, order :—L.. Jackson’s Black Boy, T. Bolger’s Don Juan, W. Dunstan's Easy Money, K. Stephenson’s Red Diamond, W. Marshall’s Kind Words. J. McLean’s Blue Streak, 31. Sharp’s Red Eagle, F. Dunstan’s Sea gull, and B. Carroll’s Diamond Prince. Tie 1 ext race is to be held from Woodville for the Forster Yearling Cup. The race will he open only to yearlings, and all members are looking forward keenly to .the event, one of the three major events of the year. It has been decided to box the birds next Thursday so that, they can be liberated at Woodville early in the morning. Entries will dose to-morrow night with Mr. E. Stephenson, Peel street, or with the secretary, Mr. J. Forster, 203 Harris street.
