FLOCK HOUSE SCHEME
FINDING ELIGIBLE BOYS DIFFICULTIES EXPECTED The difficulty experienced in assembling the necessary number of 'boys to go to Flock House for training each year was revealed at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relict Association, when a reply sent to the New Zealand Bheeppwuers ’ Acknowledgment of Debt to British Seamen Fund authorities in connection with the matter was read.
The secretary reported that, the fund authorities hail written to the association stating that although the Government subsidy had been reduced, they would carry any loss that might result and were prepared to continue taking sons of New Zealand returned soldiers at the same cost to the association as last year, £25 ss. It had been found that the R* lads sent from Auckland last year had been a good type, and they had benefited greatly by their period at Flock House. The hope was expressed that the association would be able to send a similar number of 'boys this vear.
In reply, the president, Sir .lames Gunson; said considerable difficulty had been experienced last year in assembling the boys, and he feared that this year it would be more difficult to obtain eligible boys, but the association would do its best. He thought that the possibility of extending the period of training for promising boys was worthy of consideration by the fund trustees, as considerable expense would be saved in the matter of transfers and the assembling of fresh boys at such short notice.
