Exhaust Fumes in Car
CXHAEST fumes entering the ear are usually dfie to loose exhaust pipe unions, and care should be taken to keep these light, and lo replace any faulty gaskets. Another cause is sometimes a bad Invi>m of ilie exhaust system. In some cases the opening of the tail pipe points directly at the back axle. Bending it down will allow a clear escape for the gases behind the ear. In other eases the pipe opens well underneath the body and near to the floor boards. In such a case bending ilie pipe downwards will sometimes have the desired result, or an extension may ho fitted. Owing to the eddies caused by mist ronmlitied rear ends of bodies, especially in the case of large vehicles such as buses, even considerable projection at the rear ol the tail pipe may not prevent exhaust gas being sucked back into Ilie body if the pipe is placed near the middle. The best arrangement is to bring out 1 lie tail pipe near one rear corner of the body.
