Biixten is in fine fettle for to-morrow’s Deroy, and should be suited on the softer track.
The same view is held in regard to Inflation in the Epsom, which is expected to be a great race, as many brilliant horses with equal qualifications are participating. Whether Limarch will start in the Derby will be decided definitely in tlie morning!. The colt was rather better today.
Imst year, when made favorite for the Ashburton Handicap, on that occasion a mile race, Shatter was beaten into third place, and his supporters were in much the same frame of mind as they were after his failure in the same race, run over 10 furlongs, on September 16. In the Kurow Cup, under the weight of 9.0, which he has again this year, lie was again favorite, and was again headed Horne by two oilier horses. From Oamaru he travelled to Dunedin, and again the public choice, narrowly beat Mount Boa in the Mosgiel Handicap-, and at his next start winning the Timaru Cup. The same course has been mapped out for Shatter this year, and in view of the excellent times he has been putting up at Riccarton, he should be worth following through, as his golfing trainer would say.
