CRICKET ASHES

ENGLAND’S DEFENDERS CARR SUGGESTS A TEAM LONDON, Sept. 16. Expressing high hopes that Larwood will be available next season, A. W. Carr, writing in the Daily Sketch, says the fight for the cricket ashes will centre on Larwood and Bradman. The success of either will decide the issue. Carr -picks the following team for the first test match : Sutcliffe, Walters, Hammond, Leyland,' Jardine, captain, Ames, James Langridge, Voce, Robins, Larwood and Bowes, with Verity as twelfth man. He considers that Voce’s inclusion will -be entirely dependent on Larwood’s fitness. If Larwood is not available, Clark and Allen should repjace them. Voce is 100 per cent, more effective when Larwood is playing. All the first eight of the above team exceeded 1000 runs in the season just closed. Walters is preferable to Bakewell as partner to Sutcliffe, because he is the sounder player, says Carr. Langridge is the best all-rounder of the year, and displaces Wyatt. Bowes is the best nevv-ball bowler in England, and is included as third fast bowler. Robins, as googly bowler, a brilliant field and useful bat, cannot be improved upon.
