CHINESE EARTHQUAKE <J<) I’NT HY’S MAN Y PER ILS SHANGHAI, Sept. 27. When it is not at war, famine, floods and earthquakes take tremendous toll in China. Official reports from Nanking show that in the Yellow River floods this winter, approximately 50,000 persons lost their lives, and that 2,000,C€0 were adversely affected. One million are starving' and are receiving relief. A brief message now reports that in an earthquake in Western Specimen it is estimated that at least 7000 Chinese perished during three shakes which rocked the Movvsien and Heisvvikow districts. where thousands of houses collapsed. Investigators consider that it is the worst calamity of its kind for the past hundred years.
