ROWING FORM

G.R.C. ENTERPRISE WANGANUI REGATTA SEQUEL STANDARD STYLE SOUGHT Officials of the Gisborne Rowing Club do not intend to lose the value of the visit undertaken by club crews to Wanganui last season for the annual championship regatta, and prior to the commencement of the new season an effort is to be made to lay down a standard of oarsmanship on which all strokes in the club will endeavor to mould the work of their crews. For the purpose of discussing the various points noted at the championship fixture, the strokes have been called together for tomorrow evening, Avhen it is hoped to evolve the style most suitable to river rowing, and most likely to achieve results at future regattas on “foreign waters.”

After the return of the crews from the championships last season, the results of the racing there were discussed with keen interest, and the meeting] called for Co-morrow evening is really the outcome of the discussion at that time. The main points on which attention were focussed were the slow recovery and fast catch demonstrated by most of the crews successful at Wanganui, and the short body swing which seemed to find favor with the majority of outside clubs. Other points likely to be talked over in connection with these major observations to-morrow evening will be the length of the oars outside the rigger, tire angle ot the blade at the catch, the combination of the leg drive with the shoulder swing, and the height of rowlocks in relation to the seating in the boat. The committee of the club has called together the following members, eligible to stroke crews in four-oar events, in order that all should secure the benefits of the discussionß. Anderson, D. Alexander, C. D. Armstrong, A. F. Allen, K. A. Bell, S. Brown, S. Bruce, R. Oarer, D. Coates, R. DeCosta, G. Forbes, R. Garrett, J. G. Gemmell, P. Gavin, C. F. Home, H. Hunter, R. Hanna, H. Hankey, A. Hay, G. C. Jones, G. J. Jeuue, W. Kennedy, B. Le Compe, A. Lentell, J. Malcolmson, R. Morrison, T. McCallum. R. Nicoll, L. Potts, R. Rail. R. Sloan. W. 0. Slade, G. Shaw, J. Somervell, K. A. Woodward, G. P. Weathcrley. G. Winter, and J. Zachariah. Matters of general interest to members of the Gisborne Rowing Club include the closing of entries for the first trial fours of the new season, on Monday next at 5 p.m. A list for nominations has been posted in the club-house. It is intended to put out the boats for the week-end, and to give new members then* introductions to the sport prior to the selection of the trial crews. The plant is generally in excellent condition, better probably than at any time in recent years. Reinforcements to the oar and scull supply have been received from G. Towns, of Sydney, one set of fours and two pairs of sculls having been added to the plant, Tho new singlesculling boats now in course of construction by G, Sharpe, of Wanganui, should be. ready for delivery very soon, and their arrival should give a strong fillip to this form of watermanship
