BEST MEAT CONFERENCE
ELECTORAL COMMITTEE STAND AGAINST TRUSTS “It was one of the best conferences ever held,” declared Mr F. 8. Bowen to-day in regard to the annual meeting of the Meat Board’s electoral committee. He and Mr P. J. Roberts were members of the committee from Poverty Bay, and they have arranged to report fully on tin* meeting of the committee when some data comes to hand from Ihe board’s office. In amplifying his remark, Mr Bowen said that this was the first meeting of the committee in any official capacity other than in its prime duty as an electoral body. As a result of a decision last year, delegates met the day prior to the election of the new members of the board to make recommendations for adoption by the hoard, which will be asked to give reasons for non-acceptance of rejected recommendations.
The committee got down to business quickly, added Mr Bowen, and a number of recommendations were made to the board, including one from tho Gisborne district that tin* 'board should be representative of every sheep district in New Zealand, and another that no more freezing works should he sold to vested interests. A strong stand was taken against the operation of trusts fa the Dominion.
