LAMB OPENING AT 8D

NEWS FROM ENGLAND MEAT PRICES IMPROVED Encouraging news for New Zealand farmers is contained in a cable message which tlie acting-Prime Minister, tiie Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, received from Mr. David Jones, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, on the eve of his departure, from England last week-end. Mr. Jones advised: —"The Ottawa meat agreement has definitely improved meat prices, and I am confident that mutton, lamb, bacon, and pork will realise satisfactory prices next season. "New season’s lamb should open at 8d at Smithtield.

“Consider you could safely advise farmers that British Government’s bacon marketing scheme and reductions of foreign supplies of bacon will improve our bacon and pork prices and encourage dairy farmers taking advantage of it.

“Cheese market is still very weak, but butter strong. Supplies not too much till new season’s comes. Australian July and August butter shipments one-third of last year.

‘‘Stopping beef shipments lias improved prices here and action is much appreciated by Government.”
