Sir Francis Bell has been re-elected president of the Wellington Cricket Association. —P. A. Mr. W. Noad, who until recently was licensee of the Masonic Hotel, Gisborne, has taken over the Empire Hotel, Wellington.
Mr. W. O’Connell, who for the past six vears has been district manager of the Wellington Tourist Bureau, haR been promoted to the managership of the Government Hostel at Waitomo. Mr T. C. Hobbs Jones, superintendent of mails, Wellington, retires on superannuation on September 15, after 4U years’ service in the P. and T. Department. Mr R. R. Dawber, Taumaruuui, lias been appointed resident Public Works engineer at Greyinouth, in succession to Mr G. W. Sampson, who has been ■transferred to Wanganui. Miss M. Jennings, of Nelson, celebrated her ninety-third birthday on Thursday. Miss Jennings went to Nelson with her parents at the age of 18 months, and has been a resident ever since. Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson, who arrived in Canterbury in the barque Cressy, one of the First Four Ships, nearly 83 years ago, and who is one of the best-known survivors of Canterbury’s pioneering days, celebrated his ninety-second birthday on Saturday. The appointment is announced of Mr. Henry Allander Lamb, senior supervisor of the accountants’ branch ot the General Post Office, Wellington, as grand secretary of the Grand Lodge ol Freemasons of New Zealand, in succession to Mr. G. Barclay, who recently resigned. Mr. H. H. Redman, assistant-manager in London of the Prudential Assurance Company, Limited, and Mr. Dewey, deputy-general manager ot the same company, will visit New Zealand in the near future. Mr. Redman, who is now in South America, will travel to New Zealand via Panama, and Mr. Dewey will come on to New Zealand trom Australia.
Mr C. W. 11, Dart, M.A., a son of Archdeacon Dart, of Nelson, who lias been in Europe for the past two years, has returned to New Zealand. He has been continuing his studies at the University of Poitiers and also secured the Cambridge Diploma in Education. He was also teaching for a while in England at Denstone College, Staffordshire.
