PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS
FRIDAY'S FIXTURE MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Primary Schools Sports Association, was held last evening, Mr. C. Rigby presiding over a large attendance of members. A letter was received from the Wttifoa association advising that it would bo convenient to send a Wairou schools’ representative Rugby team to Gisborne ou Saturday, September 11, to play a return match against the Poverty Bay representatives. It was decided to communicate with Wairoa accepting the offer, arrangements regarding billeting being left in the hands of Mr. Gilchrist. Discussion centred mainly around the conduct of the forthcoming combined schools spoils, to be held on the Oval on Friday next.
Notification was received from two country schools withdrawing teams already entered, on the grounds that at its last meeting the association had ruled that Form 111 pupils should not bo allowed to compete. It was pointed out by the chairman that this was the ruling that had been adopted in the past by the town schools and had been submitted to the country schools when the latter requested that a definition should bo given of a primary school pupil. The secretary was instructed to draw up a list of dates and forward them to the various competing schools. Mr. F. Ei. Murphy was appointed supervisor of the girls’ backetball events. It was resolved that in the event of it being wet on Friday morning, all pupils shall attend school as usual. Messrs. Itigby, Clarke and Primrose were appointed a postponement committee. It was decided to forward a letter to Mr. W. Barrington Miller thanking him for the invaluable assistance he laid given to the association iu making several generous donations.
