The Canadian wneat crop this year is estimated at. 382,771.000 bushels, according to a crop report by the .Dominion Bureau of Statistics issued to-day. MINING NEWS The report of Blackwater Mines, Limited (Rcefton) for August, with July figures in parentheses, is as follows:—Crushed, 4108 tons of ore (4182 tons) yielding 1858 ( 1577) fine ounces of gold, valued at £11,150 at £0 an ounce (£IO,BOI at £5 Jss an ounce). Working costs were £5569 (£5553), leaving an estimated working surplus of £5581 (£5248). Development expenditure was £9.04 (,£963), and capital expenditure £1439 (£1691). The directors of the Fourteen Milo Beach Gold Mining Company, Limited, (Otago), report that the first wash-up resulted in a return of 470 z. 13dwl, This return represents broken time while opening out. the first paddock preparatory to shifting the elevator to its new position. The. first annual report of the Waitahu Gold Mining Company, Dunedin, states that at July 31 cash at bank and 'calls unpaid totalled £5040. The expenditure from that date totalled £2125, leaving £2915 available to complete the construction programme. The directors considered this very satisfactory, as the water race was nearly completed and the claim plant was installed ready for linking up with the water.

Registration of the Manawatu Knitting Mills, Limited, with a capital of £25,000, is the outcome of a deal which marks another step forward in the liquidation of the assets of Macky, Logan, Caldwell, Limited. The new company takes over the plant arid goodwill of the Manawatu Hosiery Factory, Limited, Palmerston North. The liquidator is not disclosing the exact figure, hut a substantial cash sum is involved iu the transaction. This is the second subsidiary company of Macky, Logan’s which -has been successfully disposed of by the liquidator within recent months.
