LOVELOCK DEFEATED BECALLI EQUALS RECORD LONDON, Sept. 9. At Turin, Becalli defeated Lovelock by five yards in the final of the 1500 metres, The time was 3min. 49 l-ssec., equalling La Doumegue’s world record. Tho duel aroused tremendous interest at Turin. The Italian set a terrific pace, dropping ail except Lovelock, The pair at halfway were leading the others by 60yds. Becalli thrice attempted to drop the New Zealander, who responded gamely. Becalli, in the final sprint, won the finest race of his career. He finished strongly. Afterwards he embraced and kissed Lovelock repeatedly.
