THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report Overcast ami unsettled conditions were reported throughout the North Island this morning, with rain fairly general. North-easterly gales were blowing at Tiritiri. Tanranga, Gisborne. Napier and Cape Campbell, and strong north-easterly winds elsewhere. The barometer had fallen steadily during the week-end. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 57 degrees, Tanranga, least Cape. Napier ami Wellington 55, Opotiki 60. ;uni Gisborne 54. Rough seas were reported at Cape Campbell and Cape Pal User: heavy in the Bay of Plenty ; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast An intense anticyclone is still situated east of the Tasman Sea. Winds: Strong, north easterly of gale loree m many places, changing at times to southerly in the North Island. Seas: Heavy north of East Cape: elsewhere rough. Eastern ’Tasman Sea: Strong north-east winds to gales, veering to southerlies in tin- northern halt ; seas, rough to heavy. Weather: Becoming unsettled, dull and misty, with tuirl.v general rain developing, many heavy falls being likely during the next two days, and thunder in places. Midday Forecast
General inference. —A long and rather narrow, though a, low, pressure .lies off tho west coast of New Zealand, with a low pressure centre in the northern portion. The latter has now passed Capo Maria Van Diemen, moving eastward. Pressure has been very high to the eastward, but is now falling. Forecast.—Strong easterly gales, veering gradually to southerlies.
