Captain A. N. Dick, of the Salvation Army, has returned to Gisborne after a furlough of three weeks, which she spent in Wellington. Mr. V. E. Douglas, district engineer of the Public Works Department, Suva, arrived at, Wellington by the Runliine to spend a holiday in the Dominion. He was accompanied by Mrs. Douglas and their son. Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M.. is engaged on the quarterly Const court circuit, this week. He presided at a sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Tolaga Bay today, and will be at Waipiro Bay tomorrow, and at Port, Awanui on Wednesday. Mr. F. B. Logan, chairman of Die No, 4 District. Transport Licensing Authority, with his fellow members, Messrs. Charles Matthews and" M. SChambers, and the secretary. Mr. J. A. Sir John Sandeman Allen, M.P., who is a former chairman of the Royal F.mpire Society, has left" London on a six months’ tour. Ho will go first to East Africa, where he is expected to inquire into Japanese competition with Lancashire goods. He will then proceed through Rhodesia to South Africa, and then he will continue to Australia and New Zealand. -Sir John is a statesmanlike speaker and a prominent Imperialist. His first wife was a New Zealand woman—Miss Amy Spencer, of Christchurch. Pastor Adam Loudon, who for tlxpast four months has acted as relieving Baptist pastor in Gisborne during the absence on leave of the Rev. L. (’. M. Donaldson, left Gisborne this morning for Auckland en route to the Alrican mission field. He expects to leave Auckland on September 22, and Melbourne by the Mongolia on October 10. as missionary designate to the Soudan United Mission of the Anglo-Egyptian Soudan, and will proceed in company with Air. Ixippax. of Hobart, Tasmania, who is reluming to the missoii field after his first furlough. Pastor London, who hails from Auckland, is a graduate of the New Zealand Bible Training Institute, Auckland, and is the 1001 li student of the institute to leave New Zealand for the foreign mission field. Before the service at the Baptist 'Tabernacle closed last evening Mr. Donaldson made reference to the exceptionally satisfactory service given by Mr. Loudon as locum tenens in Gisborne. The Christian Endeavor Society met Mr. London at the close of the service in valedictory fellowship, nod wished him God-speed; a farewell presentation was to have been made, hut as Mr. Loudon had not received advice of his appointment until the previous day. the gift will follow him later.
