TE KARAKA CHAMPIONS WIN IN FINAL MATCH

' A wia against Waituhi on Saturday afternoon gave Te Karaka the Poverty Bay ladies’ hockey championship. Prior to last Saturday, Y.M.P. was a point ahead of Te Karaka, but the latter hao an additional game to play. This was against Waituhi, and took place on Sat urdayl the margin in favor of Te Karaka being ■ three goals to one. This put Te Karaka one point ahead of Y.M.P. on the championship list, and the competition is now closed. The game on Saturday was fast and even, both teams making strong endeavors to give their best showing. The Te Karaka forwards were over-anxious, and continually were penalised for 01-side play. Half time came with the scores standing at 2—l in favor of Te Karaka. goals having been scored by Miss G. Nepia and Mrs. Watene for le Karaka. while Mrs. Edwards netted for Waituhi after a good solo jam .from half-way.. In the second spell, Mrs. Watene goaled again for Te Karaka, the game ending s—l, with victory to Te Karaka. Tho r referees were Messrs. G. Corbett and J. Henderson. A ladies’ team representing .the Kin Toa chib was to have visited Wniroa on Saturday, but the trip was postponed in view of-the difficulty of the Wniroa association securing a suitable’ ground.
