CORRESPONDENCE

FARM LABOR

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, I was greatly upset to read of these poor single men starving in the town of Gisborne, so I decided that I would do my share towards relieving the sufferings of at least one of them; lienee niv advertisement in your paper for a farm hand at 15s per week, with the added inducement of a good home, which to a starving man should be a God send. However, I did not get one reply. Perhaps some of those speakers on behalf of the unemployed at the Opera House last week can tell me why. 1 would suggest that speakers use their eloquence to persuade the single, men to go and work. ‘ They can get work if they want it, but unfortunately for them, it is not in Gladstone road. When a cocky approaches a registry office for a farm-hand they take the employer’s name and let them know when labor is offering. Anyone can verify this statement. In this district there* arc ; Free jobs the present time and the wages and food are good and if the man engaged is worth his salt he will he paid accordingly. Fair enough. I should say. Here's hoping you will find space to publish this letter, Air. F.ditor, as I am curious to see if anyone will answer mv question as to whv.—Yours, etc., SHARE AfILKEK, v Tolaga Bay.
