WINOOKA DEFENDED EQUIPOISE CHALLENGED SEATTLE, Sept. 9. The Seattle Pos't-.lntelligencer to-mor-row will print a copyrighted article, by Mr. Naylor replying to Lhe contention of Mr Whitney and other eastern horsemen in connection with the proposed Winooka-Equipoise race. Mr. Naylor writes: ‘•Disparaging remarks concerning Wiuooka's eligibility to a match with Equipoise am against racing facts. Winooka is recognised as the fastest sprinter produced in Australia and New Zealand. This is hacked bv a season's record and wins in Sydney and Melbourne. He. issues a formal challenge, to the owner of Equipoise for a six furlongs race late in October, either in New York or Maryland.
Poison and other members of the entourage also took exception to Mr. Whitney’s remarks, and intimated that Hie horse's hackers would he prepared to wager heavily against Equipoise. They suggested that it lie a “winnei-take-all" match. It is said Hull. All. Naylor has been authorised by Messrs. MacDonald and Matthews to wager £2OOO that \\ inooka will defeat Equipoise at seven iurhmgs. Mr. Poison to-day staled that the horse is reaching the. lop of his torm. He predicted that it. would break the world six furlongs record in the mulch against Onrush on September 16.
