NEW FREIGHT CONTRACT YEARLY SAVING "oF £300,000, (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Meat Producers’ Board and the Daily Produce Board announce the new shipping freight contract for a term of three years from September 1 next. It provides for an extra 6 per cent, off the basic rates, making the total reductions off the basic rates 21 per cent. The new, rates represent 7.05 per cent, off the present contract rates and mean a saving to the producers ot approximately £300,000 per annum, approximately £IBO,OCO for meat and £124,000 for dairy produce. The Blue Star Line participates in the contract for 10 per cent, of the refrigerated cargo. Provision also is, made for the carnage of chilled beef and the companies have agreed to improve the regularity of the services by increasing the number of timetable steamers.
