BOXING

GISBORNE ASSOCIATION ‘ i FUTURE TOURNAMENTS A meeting of the committee of the Gisborne Boxing Association was hold last night, there being present Messrs. A. S. Parker, chairman, A. Rice, G. H. Sceats, P. Hamilton, W. B. Edwards, D. Grade, J. F. Jeune, R. Humphreys, G. Y. Lynex, T. Smale, G. Clayton, and J. Clayton. Accounts in connection with the tournament held on Friday were passed for payment. Mr. R. J. Kerridge wrote confirming the booking of the Opera House for the big tournament to be held in Show week. The suggested dates for the Gisborne High School annual tournament, August 14 and 15, were approved, and the following officials were appointed: Referee, Mr. F. Dominey; judges, Messrs. J. Clayton, V/. B.; Edwards and W. C. Pilmer, and Dr. H. Goulding Rice. It was decided) to stage a, 10-round professional contest on the second night of the amateur championships, if possible between a local and an outside professional. It was mentioned that owing to Johnny McKay having entered into a contract with, ' the Pahiatua association for a match on September 1, his services might not be available- to the Gisborne association. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Lynex, it was decided that the Poverty Bay championships this year be called the Aislabie memorial championships, and that a special trophy be allocated for competition at the tournament.
