WAIRARAPA RACES
POOR FIELDS COMPETE TOTE FIGURES INCREASE (Per Press Association.) CARTERTON, last night. The first day of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting at Tauhcrcnikau took place in fine, sunny weather. After a heavy shower the previous night the course was in perfect order, though the fields were poor when compared with the usual standard. The attendance was not up to the usual. The totalisator investments under the win and place system of betting showed a slight increase, the total put through the machine being *5993, compared with £B7OI for the same day last year. Additional results were:
'Tuihitaratu Hack Handicap. •>-.> Kalmuk (A. O’Neill), l; 3-4 Gapetown. 2; 1-1 Courtyard, 3. Also ran: 2-2 Morrntli, 4-5 Chile. Won by a ength. Time, 1.40 3-5. Morratli was fourth.
Martinborough Handicap.-—2 Navaho (W. E. Price), 1; 1 Lucky Alice, 2; 3 Lady Spy, Also ran: 4 \itaphonc. The only starters. Won by a head; third three lengths away. Time, 1.26 3-5.
Mokai Hack Handicap.—l-2 Clangor (Wilson), 1; 7-7 While Squall, _2; 4-5 Royal Dash, 3. Also run: n 4 Aroma, 2-1 Bonnie Vale, 6-6 Lady Ronald, 3-3 Rhea. Won by a short head, half a length between second and third. Time, 1.22 1-5. Aroma was fourth.
Maiden Hack. —8-8 Colossica! (M. Gilmour), 1; .1-1 King Thomond, 2: 5-6 Rone Bell, 3. Also started: 2-2 Dalton Park, 3-2 Hazoor, 7-7 T.cua, 4-5 Korero, 9-9 Trader Horn, 6-4 Grand Blow. Won by half a length, threequarters of a length between second and third, '.rime, 1.28. Dalton Park was fourth.
