SPEED ANNEXES CUP AUTUMN TO STITCH (Per Press Association.) [ HASTINGS, last night. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opener! yesterday in line weather before a largo attendance. It was the first time the club has raced on Easter Saturday. The win and'place system of betting was in operation, and the machine handled £7Oll for seven races, against £71117 for eight races at the corresponding fixture last year. Following are the results: — Riverslea Hurdles.—l-1 Kinscl (J. Leach), 1; 4-4 Red Bank (A. P. McGuire), 2; 3-3 Kimbo (Stratton), 3. Also ran: 2-2 Whenuanui, 5-5 Kaokaroroa. Won by two lengths, with four lengths between second and third. Time, 2.47. Red Bank took the lead early, but was replaced by Kinscl at the railway bend, Kinscl maintaining the advantage in the .straight to win comfortably. Poukawa Handicap. -2 Royal Shift (J. Green), 1; 1-1 Grand Sport, 2; 8-8 Queen’s Diadem, 3. .Scratched: Tarehu and Tangihoc, Won by half a neck; a head between .second and third. Time, 1.8. Royal Shift and Dusky Grown were left* badly. Admatha led the field to the straight from Bradman, Queen’s Diadem, Ilukomanu and Grand Sport. Queen’s Dia : dent led into the straight, Royal Shift making a great run to overtake .the leaders just, on the 'post. Nursery Handicap. —3-3 Cullus (Faulkner), 1; 5-4 Princess Bell (Walsh), 2; 2-6 Limbohm, 3. Also ran: 1-1 Slippery, 2-2 Ilybiscus, 8-8 Passion Fruit, 7-7 Mercian Queen, 6-5 Me Heath, 9-!> Mercian Lass. Won by half a length; a length and a half between second and third. Time, 1.75. Slippery led out, but was replaced by Hybiscus.- Then'came Mercian Queen, Princess Bell and 'Cullus. The latter ran up to third place coming into the straight and went; on to overtake the leaders. Hawke’s Bay Cup.—l-1 Speed (J. Leach), 1; 4-3 White Fang (L. Grey), 2; 3-4 Yalsicr, 3. Also ran: 5-5 My Own, 2-2 Chocksay, 6-6 Royal Parade. Won by half a head; two lengths between second and third. My Own, Royal Parade, Chocksay, Speed, White Fang and. Yalsicr was the order.past the stand. Round the back, Chocksay went u'p to second place.. Yalsicr led into the straight from Speed, Rova. Parade, White Fang and Chocksay, but Speed came away with While Fang challenging strongly. The latter failed by half a head in a stirring finish. Time, 2.6. Herctaunga Handicap.—4-4 High Grader (Gray), 1; 2-3 Sahutini (Fanning), 2; 7-7 Gold Ruler (Callaghan),

Also ran: 5-5 Royal Hunting, 3-4 Jazz King, 6-6 Master Frank. Won by two lengths: a length between second and fluid. Time, 1.13 2-5. Grumpy .jumped out to lead the field into the straight, where the order was: Grumpy, Stitch, Jazz King, Master Frank and Royal Hunting. Stitch forged ahead at the distance to win comfortably. Flying Handicap. —4 Tahoma (J. Leach) and 2 Kaihoro (Mullins), a dead heat, 1; 3 False 'Scent (Callahan), 3. Also ran: 1 Aston.. The deadheaters were half a yard in fiord of Koval Scent. Kaihoro led Aston, False Scent and Tahoma to the half-mile, where Aston assumed the lead, but was again replaced by Kaihoro, who led into the straight. In a great run home, Tahoma challenged strongly, dead-heating on the post.
