TERRITORIAL NOTES

(Bv Sniper) The mounteds have finished their week under canvass alid dispersed to their various districts. The unanimous opinion is that the camp was a great success from every point oi view. Only one incident occurred which somewhat spoiled the show for someone —an accident to - a wellknown racehorse which was being used in camp, necessitating its being destroyed. Apart from the excellent opportunity the camp afforded the mounteds to put their knowledge to the test ill actual tactics, this camp has provided a source of interest to the people of Gisborne who were treated to a fine afternoon’s sport and an excellent op.en-air concert on the Monday.

The annual officers’ and sergeants’ mess dinners were also held on Monday and “Sniper” was priviledged in being asked to attend to represent the H.O. Wing and B Companies of the Hawke’s- Bay Regiment. A very representative gathering enjoyed a capital dinner and much interest was caused by the presence of mounted men who were active members in the early years of the Bay’s history and also some who served overseas with the W.E.G.M.R. The infantry paraded on Monday evening and marched out to the camp to attend the concert. The march was made in good time, and the parade was under the command of Lieut. A. Burge.
