How Sinclair Lewis Works
Mil. Sinclair Lewis' last novel, “Ann Vickers,” has resulted in liis being again charged with paying too little attention to form. The truth is that Mr. Sinclair Lewis never trusts to improvisation. Before he begins a book he has all the characters ticketed and analysed and their roles exactly settled. lie also provides himself a map, indicating till the places 'mentioned in the novel. And lie describes nothing thqt, he lias not seen. Mr. Lewis is for ever busy jotting down scraps of conversation he overhears, and noting things that strike him.
