An Auckland Press Association telegram states that Thomas Curran, tobacconist, was fined £LOQ for keeping his premises as a common gaming house. John Martyn Wilson, 46. was fined £SO on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor car and his licenso was cancelled for 12 months. After a period of 41 years in Hastings, the Hov. Hubert Speight has accepted the parish of l’atutahi, and lie will leave to take over his new duties at the end of next month. The Rev. Mr. Speight was ordained deacon in St. Matthew s Church, Hastings, by Bishop Sedgwick, in July, 1928, and was elevated to the priesthood a year later, lie has been assistant curate at the chur:.li and with Mrs. Speight has proved a great mid popular worker. They will both bo greatly missed, hut will carry with them the best of wishes for their future career. Both Mr. and Mrs. Speight have lived in Hawke’s Bay for many years, for at different periods Mr. Speight has been headmaster of the schools at Eskdale, port Ahuriri and Havelock North.--North.-Napier Telegraph.
