AMERICAN LEGISLATION EARLY PASSAGE LIKELY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Nov. 23, 2 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 22. The 'Speaker, Mr Garner, told newspaper men on Tuesday that, in his opinion, the United -States House of Representatives will pass the Beer Bill at the short session, but has refrained from any forecast as to the probable timo.\ Mr Garner said, also, that with the Beer Bill and reductions in Governmenit expenses it might be possible to secure a balanced Budget •without 'passing other forms of taxation. Asked what percentage of beer he flavored, Mr Garner said, “Within the constitution. ’’ About 2.7 b or 3 per cent? he was asked. “Somewhere around that,” Mr Garner replied. The Speaker gave, as a guess, thatlegalised beer for revenue would bring in £50,000,000 or £00,000,000 annually.
Meanwhile, White House’s aides to Mr Hoover said the President had neither affirmed nor denied that the veto would be given to any Beer Bill that 'Congress enacts.
■Mr Britten said he had taken up the beer legislation with the President; and predicted that Mr Hoover would not veto it.
